Zone 3 RC has a Lunar New Year Appreciation Party at Blk 266 pavilion on 15 Jan. About 200 residents came for a night of yummy food, bingo game and karaoke singing. It was a cosy gathering as families and friends mingled together and soaked in the festive mood.

On 15 Jan 2012 was where our indian residents celebrates Pongal also known as the month of harvesting. This day was also the day where Bukit Batok East IAEC jointly organised with Zone 2 RC Pongalo Pongal @ BBE with the theme "Care for the Elderly". Fifty senior residents from Bukit Batok East and Toh Guan were specially invited to the event. They were treated with great hospitality, food were served and goodie bags were specially prepared for them. Mdm Halimah Yacoob being the Guest Of Honour were there to welcome the senior citizens. There were tice cooking demo.The residents were entertained by multi racial singing and dancing performances.Bukit Batok East Indian Classical Vocal Music students lead by Mdm Gayathri made their first performance infront of an audience together with our guest of honour. Wishing all our Indian residents a Happy Pongal Day.

WANTED: For loanshark harassment

Police are looking for a slim built man with short hair and spectacles to assist with investigations into a case of loanshark harassment reported at Bukit Batok Street 25 on 10 Jan 2012.

He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured round-neck T-shirt with pictures printed in front, dark-coloured Bermuda and was carrying a black sling bag.

Anyone with information on this man is requested to call the Police Hotline at 1800-2550000. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

On the 14 January 2012, Saturday , a group of Hoover Park residents head off to a 1 day Chinese New Year shopping spree. They visited places like woodland terrence, china town, jalan kayu ,jurong fishery port and jurong nursery.
Residents came home with many bags of good deal goodies.
They enjoyed themselves very much and look forward tohave this shopping trip next year.

BBE Family Hong Bao Lantern Making Contest - 8 January 2012 Sunday

A special event, which was organised to promote family bonding and celebrate the Lunar New Year, was held on 08 January 2012 at the Multi-purpose Hall located at Bukit Batok East CC. Through this event, the organiser hope to provide opportunity for the family to work on small project together. Teams were made up of people from 2generations and they need to use their creativity to make a lantern using Hong Bao ( Red Packet) within the given time.
This contest was jointly organised by BBE Family Life Champion , Volunteer Induction Programme (VIP) Team & Bukit Batok East Grassroots Organisation and supported by South West CDC.

BBE Hongbaos Presentations - 08 January 2012 Sunday

Grassroots Adviser Mdm Halimah Yacob presented some 1,800 hongbaos to elderly residents in Bukit Batok East & Toh Guan estates on Sunday, 8 January 2012. She personally hand the hongbaos into each recipient’s hands wishing them good health and a happy new year.

To better take care of elderly residents, she had instructed the Organising Committee to speed up the process in registration. A new approach was adopted and the process was shortened considerably. The committee is gathering ground feedback to further improve and ensure convenience to our elders.

BBE Countdown Party - 31 December 2011 Saturday

Countdown Party @ Bukit Batok East was successfully held on Saturday 31st December 2011. There was an overwhelming turnout of more than 1500 Bukit Batok East residents. Young families, new citizens, PRs and local youths of different cultures enthusiastically supported the Countdown party, and it was a vibrant and inspirational moment for all involved in the celebrations.

Recognizing the need to build and to bond the community, many of the volunteers called their neighbours and new citizen friends along, sharing their values and traditions with them, and even encouraging them to take the initiative to help in the event.

The event was spearheaded by BBE Youth Executive Committee (YEC) and supported by BBE GROs

Christmas @ Heartland on 18 Dec 2011 is an event where all residents from all races and age group came together to celebrate Christmas at the same time have an understanding about the celebration of Christmas itself. There were stage drama performances, live band, and stage games for our New Citizens and New PRs. The New Citizens and PRs were invited to join this special event where they also get to mingle with our local residents to built community bonding. Mdm Halimah Yacoob was the guest of honor for the event. The event ends with a harmonious carols from the church group where residents sing along together with them. It was indeed a celebration to remember.

BBE Community Sing A Long Session - 1 January 2012 Sunday

More than 400 residents sang and danced on the first day of 2012 at Bukit Batok East.
They were at the hard court of Blk 235 Bukit Batok East Ave 3, at the Sing-a-long Session, organised by Bukit Batok East Community Club Management Committee and Zone 1Residents’ Committee. They sang Mandarin oldies and Chinese New Year songs. Many also danced to the beat of Cha-Cha and rumba.

The Guest of Honour, Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations, Mdm Halimah Yacob who is the Minister of State, MCYS and MP for Jurong GRC joined residents and grassroots leaders to sing Beautiful Sunday.

The “Hong Bao Lantern Making Demonstration ” attracted over 45 families who were keen to learn valuable tips on how to use Hong Baos (Red Packet) to make into cute and creative lanterns used as decorations during Chinese New Year.
Our enthusiastic participants learned how to make 2 different kinds of lantern from the Demonstrator Mdm Goh.

Organised by Family Life Champion, the workshop aimed at promoting traditional art to families while parents can take the opportunity to bond with their children. It was great fun as everybody enjoyed the event very much.
This project was supported by Bukit Batok East Grassroot's Organisation.

Hundreds of students participate in this year 2011 Abacus Competition organised by the Bukit Batok East CC WEC and CCMC. As usual, participant students are from different district of Singapore. They participate in the competition to test on their abacus knowledge after learning from the Community Abacus classes.

BBE Nature View RC Block Party - Celebrating Families : 3 December 2011 Saturday

Despite the heavy rain, the response for the event was overwhelming. More Than 250 residents and their family members turn up to support the block party.

Highlight of the day include the appearance of Santa and the cute angry birds which everyone loved, Magic Show, Family Bonding Games,Balloon Sculpturing , free popcorn/ candy floss and ice cream, The residents had enjoyed the event alot and brought back lots of fun and laughter.

Celebrating Grandparents' Day and family life, the Bukit Batok East Family Life Champion (FLC) & Community Lead Champion (CLC) team organised a T-shirt Design Contest for 24 families on 27th November 2011.
It was a fun-filled occasion as parents' and children brainstormed together to come up with designs that fulfilled the theme of Active Ageing and Grandparents' Day!
Coordinated by the BBE Volunteer Induction Programme (VIP), the new inductees also felt proud to be part of the contest as it helped them understand the meaning of good teamwork and family bonding. Ending the event on a high note was the Modelling Segment, where the eldest member of the family had to put on the shirt that they designed and model for their friends and neighbours to see! Participants enjoyed themselves, laughing away throughout the night and appreciating the company of their family members.

Senior Citizens’ Birthday Celebration Dinner – 20 Nov 2011 Sunday

About 1000 seniors and their families and friends joined in the celebrations at U-Square. Despite a heavy downpour, the residents enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and entertainment by various artistes. Mdm Halimah presented the birthday seniors (whose birthday falls between September and December) with a cake and 2 red eggs.

The Children’s Day event was successfully held on 2 October 2011. Children and parents attending the event enjoyed themselves with singing performances, fun stage games, Magic Show, Comedy Show and balloon sculpturing. Students from Jeimin Primary School put up a special dance performances for the crowd with malay and Indian dance performance and made their second appearance for our G.O.H of that day Mdm Halimah Yacob.There was also on the spot costume competition using recycle materials where children and parents get to participate in this enganging parent and child session.

At Bukit Batok East Constituency, over 250 residents gathered in the early hours of the Sunday, 23 October 2011 morning to mark the
3rd BBE Brisk Walk Anniversary / 35th PA CSC Anniversary Celebration.

The event kicked off with a lively and humorous warm up exercise. Our Adviser Mdm Halimah Yacob then flagged off the participants for the 2km walk –a –jog session around the scenic Bukit Batok East estate. On returning back to the U-Square, the participants tested their skills in the various interesting “Good Old Days” games.

An action filled mini sports carnival, design to bring back old time memories games like the Roll The Ball, Your Shooting Skills, Chaptek, Walking The Wheel, Count the Shuttle, Ping Pong and the Walk The Stick was arranged for the participants. And adding on to the atmosphere was the giving away of free balloons sculptures and lots of lucky draw prizes.

BBE Healthier Cooking Workshop for Family - 30 October 2011 Sunday

The “Healthier-Cooking Workshop ” attracted an overwhelming 35 families who were keen to learn valuable cooking tips on how to prepare healthier dishes for the family!
Our enthusiastic participants cooked braised mee sua with shredded chicken, cold beancurd with braised kinoko and French beans with walnut. Organised by Family Life Champion and Health Promotion Board , the workshop aimed at promoting nutritional cooking to families while parents can take the opportunity to bond with their children. It was great fun as everybody cooked up a great healthy meal!
This project was supported by Bukit Batok East Grassroot's Organisation.

Bukit Batok East Charity Dinner - 11 October 2011 Tuesday

It was a night of simple dinner with a western set up and a 2 piece band. The Organising Committee borrowed the Harry Potter’s dining hall concept where long tables were used rather than the traditional round ones. We hoped to give our generous donors and supporters attending our Bukit Batok East Charity Dinner 2011 a new experience. The emcees and decorations were done up by our Team BBE grassroots and volunteers. We like to thank Advisor to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance and Minister for Manpower as Guest of Honor and Madam Haimah Yacob as Host for the evening. Our deepest appreciation to all donors and supporters in making this fundraising dinner a success.

Crowds gathered at Bukit Batok East Point for the first ever Kampong Night in BBE. The site was decorated with pennant flags and there were a variety of stalls lined up by the side of the audience sitting area. There was a scaled-down night market, kampong games like hopscotch, chapteh, five stones and a kacang putih stall. Residents tried playing the various traditional games and were captivated by the various tricks by the balloon man and magician.

The BBE Team, formed by Mr Rahmat, Mdm Ramlah, Mr Manivanan, Mdm Celeka and Mr Li Jiongshen, took part in 'The Great Harmony Race' organised by People's Association Community Engagement Division.
The objective of the event is to promote community engagement and racial harmony.
The team completed all the check points given and had an enjoyable day. Through this event, they learned more about the importance of racial harmony and working together as a team. The team members felt that this is a very meaningful event which they benefited greatly from.

BBE Nature View RC Make & Fly Your Own Kite - 2 October 2011 Sunday

The Nature View RC together with BBE Family Life Champion organized a successful ‘Make and Fly your Own Kite’ event on 2 October 2011 at the Marina Barrage. The weather was cooling when a bus-load full of enthusiastic participants reached the Barrage.
They kicked start the morning with the competition. Participants had to work in team of 2-4 to make and decorate a kite. After an hour, all participants proudly laid their kites at the foyer floor area for all to view. An outsider was invited to be the Judge to ensure fairness and the best three kites were chosen.
Participants were given lunch and each team was rewarded with a new kite that is ready to fly. The roof top of the Barrage was filled with laughter and lively chattering as kites were being flown in the clear blue sky.
The day ended with participants beaming with joy. All went home with different take-away like a kite designed by themselves, a new kite, fond memories and more…

The RC had included traditional Lion Dance, lantern procession around the estate, games/riddles in the programme. The highlight of the evening was Fire Eating performance. Grassroots Adviser, Mdm Halimah Yacob, Minister of State, MCYS also join in the celebration. The Committee would like to convey appreciation to some 300 residents of all races who attended.

BBE FLC Japan Konapun Making Workshop for Family - 18 September 2011 Sunday

The Japanese Konapun Workshop attracted around 20 families on a bright Sunday morning! Organised by BBE’s Family Life Champion Good Man Club, family members made up of 2 generations put their nimble fingers to good use to make tiny miniatures of Japanese Spaghetti and Pudding.
It was a test of skill, creativity and endurance as both parents and children decorated their Konapun food-pieces with their imagination and innovativeness!
For many, it was their first time at a Japanese Konapun Workshop, and all took pride in their intricately colourful artwork. More cuisine-making, anyone?

Bukit Batok East Community Emergency And Engagement Committee (C2E) together with SCDF / NPC and NEA organised the Emergency Preparedness Day 2011 on 4 September 2011 (Sun) at the U Square.

The Objective of the event was to remind residents the important of emergency preparedness, to test up the EP plan for the Constituency and to drill their CERT members as well as their Volunteers

Bukit Batok East C2E regularly organised training programme to train volunteers on basic skills like general knowledge, first aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Fire Safety. Together we work with the SCDF & NPC to organise the Emergency Preparedness Day.

Over a thousand residents gathered to watch the BBE National Day Variety Show performance. It is a timely occasion to appreciate the volunteers for contributing their time and talents towards grassroots work, thus Mdm Halimah also presented them with the long service awards.
Besides having entertainers crooning their favourite songs, residents also had great fun singing a number of National Day songs like “Stand up for Singapore”. Indeed, these old National Day songs do resonate in their hearts. Mr Tharman also joined in the fun singing our National day songs.

We would like to thank all the residents who joined in the celebration and have made that evening a special one.

Everybody couldn’t wait to catch a glimpse of the BBE GIANT FLAG! Standing tall with 4,200 well wishes from the BBE community, the Giant Flag represented the hopes and dreams of the residents for the nation. It was a moment to remember as the residents, in their various contingents, came together to sing the National Anthem and recite the National Pledge.
A tradition led by the Yusof Ishak Secondary School Parade Contingent, our enthusiastic BBE contingents, represented by the various RCs, NCs, & Committees, happily march passed GOH Mdm Halimah Yacob, Minister of State, MCYS & MP for Jurong GRC and cheered wholeheartedly as they march passed the Giant Flag!

Bukit Batok East: Giant National Flag - 6 August 2011 Saturday

Bukit Batok East celebrated this year's National Day in a very different way. Besides the normal Observance Ceremony and Cultural Show for the residents, they have also invited all residents to pen down their wishes for the nation. All collected wishing cards are then put together to form a Giant National Flag and used as the Back Drop for the National Day Observance Ceremony.

The preparation for the Giant Flag started since early June, whereby residents who attended our community events are being invited to pen down their wishes and take a photo while holding a specially designed board with words such as 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE' and 'LOVE SG' printed on them.

Two days before the Observance Ceremony, volunteers started to paste all 4200 pieces of wishing cards into 60 pieces of vanguard sheet. Then, on 6 August 2011, all these vanguard sheets are being put together on a giant board to form the giant National Flag.

One Community Walk 2011@ Bukit Batok East - 24 July 2011 Sunday

The One Community Walk is an unprecedented nation-wide mass walking event engaging more than 85,000 residents from all the constituencies in Singapore.

At Bukit Batok East Constituency, over 1000 resident’s gathered in the early hours of the Sunday morning (before 7.00am) to participate in the fitness activity. The event was kicked off with a lively and humorous warm up exercise. Mr Richard Ong BBM, in the absence of our Adviser Mdm Halimah Yacob (away on official duty), addressed the participants with his welcoming speech and then flagged off the participants for the 2.5 km walk around the scenic Bukit Batok East estate.

The participants on returning back to the U-Square, enjoyed the rest of the morning in the mini carnival stalls and by witnessing on stage a series of martial arts demonstrations by the BBE Health Qigong group, BBE Silat group and BBE Aikido group. The event ended with lots of lucky draw prizes been presented to the lucky participants.

The event was co-organised by BBE Grassroots Organisation and Community Sports Club.

The National Day Parade (NDP) 2011 Show is presented in an integrated musical, showcasing the Singapore Spirit and Singapore's progress over a prologue and five acts. Stringing the acts together are several main characters and various renditions of this year's theme song "In a Heartbeat". The show tells the story of Singapore from the perspective of a family, centre-ing on two main characters- Mother and Son, whose story brings out different elements of the Singapore Spirit, with Singapore's history as the backdrop.

BBE Spring View RC Racial Harmony Party- 23 July 2011 Saturday

Thank you for taking part in tonight's Racial Harmony Party held from 7.30pm. It was a great night with great entertainment and lots of exciting games with prizes.

The night started slow with game stalls set up for all residents to take part in. The games were simple and every participant walked home with at least one souvenirs. An NEA exhibition booth and game stall were also available for all residents to learn on the various tactics in the mozzie operations to wipe away aedes mosquitoes and help to prevent dengue.

The party move into the next gear and the audience were entertained with songs and dance. The children were then treated with a magic show by Captain Dazzle. It was funny watching the magic show. Most of the children were really 'dazzled' by the talking drawing on a small whiteboard.

There were lots of games prepared for the children and every single child went home with prizes.

Finally, the lucky draws drew the whole crowd to full attention with anticipation to win a prize. Eventually the lucky ones won the web quiz prizes and party lucky draw prizes ranging from waist bag to gift vouchers.

It was another successful event done up by the residents' committee. There will be more events coming soon. So watch out for them and see you soon.

Bukit Batok East Family Life Champion (FLC) Wins GOLD And MERIT At PA's FLC Awards Presentation 2011 - 17 July 2011 Sunday

Congratulations to our Bukit Batok East Family Life Champion (FLC) for a work well done for year 2010. The leader of the BBE FLC Mr Yeo Hock Seng received the MERIT (Interest Group) from Group Director Mr Chia & GOLD award for parenting from Dr Amy Khor, Minister of State, Ministry of Health, Mayor, South West District during the Award Presentation held today, 17 July 2011 at Rasa Sentosa Resort.

It was a homerun for BBE, filled with joy and happiness as all the hard work and efforts of our volunteers were acknowledged and rewarded. Once again, BBE FLC would like to thank all volunteers and residents for their support and hope that they would continue to give us their support.

On 10 July 2011, hundreds of residents gathered at the Bukit Batok East Point to watch the Karaoke Singing Competition where 40 contestants displayed their singing talents, and wooed the judges and audience with their songs.
