Active Ageing and Inter-generational Bonding Day - 11 November 2012 Sunday

The Bukit Batok East (BBE) Active Ageing Committee (AAC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and partners, launched a series of programmes on 11 November 2012 to foster family bonding and encourage active ageing amongst its residents. Our Guest-of-Honour Mdm Halimah Yacob spoke about the importance of Active Ageing and the solidarity between generations.

Up to 2,000 residents attended this event where community partners provided educational materials, services and programmes for both young and seniors.

Starting off the programme was an opening item by children from My First Skool and a 312 Meridian Exercise demonstration. Residents also get to participate in a mass workout, followed by a mass folk dance and a tele-match involving both our young and seniors.

As part of BBE AAC’s aims to encourage senior residents to be mentally and socially active in conjunction with the PA Wellness Programme, residents learn about active ageing ‘hotspots’ which are ongoing social programmes and health interest groups conveniently located near residents’ dwellings to facilitate participation.

To further enhance the parenthood experience, the MSF and partners such as the Singapore Sports Council, National Library Board, Child Development Network and Health Promotion Board introduced activities targeted at both parents and their young children from October 2012 at the Bukit Batok East Community Club, these programmes include health workshops, parenting talks and sporting activities where both parents and children can participate.
